Safety coupling with backlash-free servo coupling

The backlash-free safety coupling SYNTEX with ROTEX GS combines a safety coupling with a servo coupling.

The coupling provides all properties of safety couplings and torsionally flexible, backlash-free servo couplings.

The combination of the safety couplings as a ratchet type DK or SK (engaging automatically) is available in combination with the numerous hub types of the ROTEX GS servo coupling range.

The safety couplings SYNTEX are overload couplings with positive-locking operation for torques up to 400 Nm.

A special punched disk spring serves for transmitting the torque. The design of the safety coupling ensures short reaction times and high repeatability

Torque setting when installed is possible. The design allows for easy integration of the coupling in the drive.

Easy connection of customer parts, e. g. toothed belt pulleys or sprocket.

Safety coupling with punched disk spring:

The SYNTEX safety coupling is an overload coupling with positive locking operation. The punched disk spring (patented) serves for transmitting the torque. 

Operating principles of the safety coupling SYNTEX:

Safety coupling as a ratchet type DK:
Any engagement
after an overload. After eliminating the overload, the balls re-engage automatically with the next following ball indentation.

Safety coupling as a synchronous type SR:
Synchronous engagement
after an overload. After eliminating the overload, the balls re-engage automatically with the disk springs after a rotaton of 360°. Driving and driven side are always placed in the same position to each other. Other degrees of re-engagement, for example 180°, are also possible."

For an accurate selection of safety couplings latest simulation and calculation programs are available. So please advise as many details of your drive as possible. The more accurate the data, the more accurate are the calculation results.

To make sure the safety coupling is not released with process-related torque peaks already, the shifting torque of the safety coupling should exceed the maximum operating torque by at least 30 % (see diagramme).

Torque limiters and safety couplings that re-engage automatically should be used with reduced speed with high release torques only. Frequent or longer slipping or engaging increases wear of the torque limiter.

After the overload coupling has separated driving and driven side in case of overload, it may take some time before the drive stops due to large mass inertias in the drive train. This may generate early wear of safety couplings and overload couplings that re-engage automatically. That is why we recommend with drives with large mass inertias or higher speeds to use the safety coupling KTR-SI as an idle rotation version.

We basically recommend electrical monitoring of the safety couplings to disengage the drive immediately in case of overload. We will be pleased to assist you with any technical questions about the selection of torque limiters.
