Torque limiters for accurate torque limitation

The RUFLEX torque limiters are load-holding, frictionally engaged torque limiters. The construction kit system of the RUFLEX torque limiters provides solutions for every drive.

The combination of the renowned KTR couplings such as ROTEX elastomer couplings or BoWex gear couplings and the integration of customized driving components (e. g. sprockets) allows for overload protection optimally adjusted to the application for torques up to 12,000 Nm.

Our range of torque limiters includes RUFLEX Standard, RUFLEX torque limiter with sprocket, RUFLEX max. (torque limiters in a lengthened design for wide components), RUFLEX with ROTEX (torque limiter for shaft-to-shaft connections) and RUFLEX with BoWex (torque limiter as a torsionally stiff double-cardanic shaft-to-shaft connection).

Applications of our torque limiters:  construction machinery, crushers, agricultural machinery, conveyor systems, packaging machines, textile machines

Information about selection of torque limiters

For an accurate selection of the torque limiters (safety couplings) latest simulation and calculation programs are available. So please advise as many details of your drive as possible. The more accurate the data, the more accurate are the calculation results for our torque limiters. Make use of these options and consult with us about the application beforehand.

To make sure the torque limiter is not released with process-related torque peaks already, the shifting torque of the coupling should exceed the maximum operating torque by at least 30 % (see diagramme).

Torque limiters and overload systems that re-engage automatically should be used with reduced speed with high release torques only. Frequent or longer slipping or engaging increases wear of the torque limiter.

After the torque limiter has separated driving and driven side in case of overload, it may take some time before the drive stops due to large mass inertias in the drive train. This may generate early wear of the tourqe limiters and overload couplings that re-engage automatically. That is why we recommend with drives with large mass inertias or higher speeds to use the safety coupling KTR-SI as an idle rotation version.

We basically recommend electrical monitoring of the torque limiter to disengage the drive immediately in case of overload. We will be pleased to assist you with any technical questions about the selection of torque limiters.
