In our new white paper, we show to what extent the coupling affects the torsional vibration performance of a piston compressor.

In machines and plants of air conditioning and refrigeration technology, piston compressors are mainly driven by electric motors. Besides transmission of the torque, the coupling as a connection element between electric motor and piston compressor has the task to compensate shaft displacements as well as maintaining torsional vibrations in the drive train as low as possible.

An optimum operating behaviour of a piston compressor can only be ensured by a coupling that is adapted to the vibration performance.

The periodical torque curve of the piston compressor makes these drives highly subject to torsional vibrations. A coupling that is properly selected with regard to elasticity and damping is able to significantly reduce the loads in the drive train achieving low-noise operation and a long service life of the overall drive train.

According to our calculation specialists, torsional vibration analysis is not only advisable, but the precondition for a perfect, smooth and low-wear operation of the respective drive.

The white paper is titled “Torsional vibration simulations of electric motor driven piston compressors in consideration of various coupling versions“ and can be downloaded below.
