Torsional vibration simulations of electric motor driven piston compressors in consideration of various coupling versions

The periodical torque curve of the piston compressor makes these drives highly subject to torsional vibrations. A coupling that is properly selected with regard to elasticity and damping is able to significantly reduce the loads in the drive train achieving low-noise operation and a long service life of the overall drive train.
This white paper illustrates the torsional vibration performance of a piston compressor unit when using various coupling types having different torsional stiffnesses.
