Perfect for cooling and filtering medium and large gearboxes
With the OPC series, KTR has oil-air coolers in its product range which, as an example, supply gearboxes continuously with tempered and filtered oil. A typical application are conveyor drives in surface mining. In Australian coal mines or in copper mines in South America, they create the conditions for the conveyor belts to convey large quantities of material without failure with temperatures above 30 °C and strong sunlight.
The OPC unit is driven by a solid and compact special motor with two outputs driving both the pump and the fan. This design has proven worldwide for gearbox cooling – for example in Chile where KTR is present with a subsidiary company and highly active distributors. There are copper mines in regions where temperatures are very high during the day so that external cooling of the gearboxes is essential. However, temperatures drop to below 10 °C at night. The gear oil needs to be circulated further to continue to ensure sufficient lubrication. However, cooling is not necessary.
Implementing customer requests
This profile of requirements prompted one of the Chilean KTR distributors to address the question: Why is there not any OPC cooler with a fan drive that can be switched on and off? The question is justified, the market seemed to exist, thus KTR developed such a cooler: the oil-air cooler OPC2. In this series two electric motors are used with the advantage that the user can switch off the cooler drive separately from the pump drive, thus saving energy with lower outside temperatures and reducing noise emissions. Another benefit: the motors are standard motors which are quickly available as a spare part, if required.
Hydraulic oil cooler in ATEX design
The OPC2 series is certified in accordance with ATEX and therefore suitable for potentially explosive atmospheres.
Flexible design
The OPC2 oil-air cooler is available in 14 sizes covering a cooling capacity from 2 to 110 kW as a construction kit system. Each size can be customized to customer requirements. As an example the performance of the pump motor can be adjusted to the oil viscosity.
