A perfect fit to do the job

The C-series stand for Chopper pumps, which contain an impeller and a chopping bar for chopping into small pieces the particulars that are being pumped. These pumps are used both in fixed installations and in temporary situations. The D-series are meant for draining high volumes of water. The H-pumps are used for high head dewatering. PD pumps are used in the oil spill cleaning industry – basically extracting the oil from the top of the water. The best sold models in this series are the PD75 and the PD100. As you will understand, these type of pumps are mainly used in cases of a major incident, e.g. theaccident with Deep Horizon. In 2010 an oil tanker lost about 780,000 cubic meters of oil in the Gulf of Mexico. Around 700 Selwood pumps were used in the cleaning process. The last type of pump to be mentioned is the S-series, which is mainly used for sewage.

All types of pumps in a series have different sizes – the number after the letter means the size of the outlet in millimeters. This means that for every situation there is a pump thatis a perfect fit to do the job.
New pumps are first designed on the computer then a prototype is developed and tested. When tests are proven successful, another prototype is built with an alternate engine and then to be tested in real world conditions. In the design, attention is paid to ease of access for maintenance, therefore, in the canapés, all the service points are extremely accessible. Another important feature is the automaticstop/start function. When in automatic mode, it is possible to simply set the flood and pump will automatically shut down.
Quality, health and safety
Selwood considers quality one of their top priorities. Pumps that are about to be shipped are thoroughly tested - they are all tested for four hours, and when assembled in a pump set, they are tested for another four hours.
Health and safety also plays a major role in the development and testing process. All of
the drain pipes of the testing facility are underground, to ensure no airborne particles are released in the facility.
KTR: “The best engineering decision we ever made”
To join the engines to the pumps, Selwood has used KTR-couplings for many years.
The reliability of contractors and suppliers is crucial for the production of pumps and according to Selwood’s director of engineering, Laurence Bradbury, using KTR couplings is the best engineering decision he ever made.

The smooth and hard surface (crystalline structure) and the high thermal stability and resistance to lubricants, fuels, hydraulic fluids, dissovents, etc., make polyamides an ideal material for components stressed by sliding – including couplings!
