Success at Drives & Controls!
|
KTR Couplings is happy to report on another successful showing at the Drives & Controls exhibition held recently at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.
Drives & Controls is regarded as the premiere show for what’s happening within the motion engineering, automation and mechanical power transmission sectors making it the perfect stage for KTR to present some of its latest innovations to the industry.
Visitors to the stand showed great interest in new offerings such as a spider element knitted entirely from wire but also in more established products like the Rotex ZS-DKM. The double cardanic design of the ZS-DKM, including a spacer capable of handling up to 250mm shaft distances, makes it the ideal choice for applications involving high shaft displacements and for this reason continued to generate a great deal of inquiry at the show.
Showcasing new and innovative products in combination with the effective lure of a newly designed exhibition stand issuing World Cup chart give-aways meant a busy show for the KTR team. Many new contacts were made along side visits from some of the more familiar faces of the industry. The success of this years exhibition has already lead to KTR planning its return to the event in April, 2012 and we look forward to seeing everyone there in two years time!

The new BoWex® FLE-PAC flange coupling for hydrostatic drives
|
The engineers at KTR have improved the world renowned BoWex® FLE-PA coupling for construction machinery with a hydrostatic drive. The new BoWex® FLE-PAC coupling is a torsionally rigid curved-tooth flange coupling made from a nylon disk with a steel flange.
Hydrostatic applications in agricultural and construction machinery have an increasing demand for longer working lifetime between service intervals. Using standard materials design engineers are pushing these to the limit, but based on the successful design of the BoWex® FLE-PA and the combination of new materials a new coupling has been developed specifically for these increased demands. The polyamide part of the BoWex® FLE-PAC is reinforced with carbon which improves the abrasion wear, therefore extending the product’s lifetime.
The nylon flange is manufactured as an integral part of the thin steel plate resulting in a very compact solution to the drive train. Another benefit of the design is the very short mounting length of the coupling.
In addition to all the advantages of its design, the coupling is cost effective too. The combination of nylon disk and steel flange allows the coupling to be produced at a lower cost whilst axial plug-in enables easy assembly with no need for expensive additional alignment tools and adapter solutions.
The new BoWex® FLE-PAC flange in combination with the proven curved teeth technology of BoWex® hubs offer new possibilities for agricultural and construction applications throughout the world. For further information, please contact us.

SAVE TIME & MONEY WITH KTR’S TEHM MAGNETIC TANK HEATER
|
With the colder months upon us, now is a good time to reassess the efficiency of your hydraulic system. Hydraulic fluid in a powerpack will take longer to reach the correct operating temperature in a cold atmosphere, resulting in time and money being lost.
The tubular device which is easy to install, preheats the hydraulic fluid via the internal thermostat which can be preset to ensure it is working with optimum viscosity from the very beginning. Draining of your system is not necessary making the installation simple.
KTR also produce a range of cartridge and element type tank heaters which can be fitted when building brand new systems.

One small step to big improvements, says leading engineering firm
|
|
KTR Couplings Ltd has asked the rail industry to look again at the type of shackle springs it uses, in a bid to improve safety, reduce carriage down-time and make cost savings.
KTR – the original manufacturer of the Rigiflex coupling, which has been fitted as standard on all model 465 trains for nearly 20 years – is concerned about the widespread use of “poorer quality, mass produced” shackle springs with KTR’s own precision engineered couplings.
Geoff Ancliff, General Manager of KTR Couplings Ltd, said: “Mass-produced copies of our products are not precision machined. Our tests show that the geometries of the copies are not as precise as the original product. The parts are not machined to the same exacting KTR tolerances and this leads to different technical parameters in the product such as different stiffness, different torques characteristics etc. This leads to premature failure of the product due to back-lash in the coupling.
“These findings have implications not only for the lifespan of the product but also long-term costs. Failure of the coupling could lead to failure of the equipment surrounding the coupling. This then results in expensive down time and repairs.”
KTR shackle springs are precision engineered and rigorously tested, and come with full maintenance instructions and after care with every order. The company says it is confident that prices for larger orders are comparable with those of its “poorer quality” competitors, and that over the long-term KTR quality will save rail operators money.

KTR Couplings Ltd at Wimbledon
|
KTR Couplings Ltd is proud to have played its part in the construction of the new retractable roof at Wimbledon’s Centre Court - the world’s most famous tennis tournament and venue. Street Crane Xpress, the Sheffield based company who designed and built the long-awaited roof, requested KTR’s RADEX®-N 90 NANA Couplings to be used for the hydraulic jacks and arms which move the two 16 metre high roof sections into place.
The 5,200 square metre retractable roof is made of flexible fabric allowing it to be folded into a compressed area when not in use and translucent, giving the court an “open” feel even when the roof is closed. At the first sign of rain the roof can close in under 10 minutes with a further 20-30 minutes to wait until the air management system creates the correct atmospheric conditions for both the players and spectators, allowing games to continue even in the wettest weather conditions. Tennis stars Andre Agassi, Steffi Graf, Tim Henman and Kim Clijsters were the first to play under the new roof describing it as “spectacular”. |
